What can robots do?

  1. Pass out the provided paper in the folder marked Sub Plan 1.  Ensure that students have a writing utensil.  There is a box of pencils for students to use during my absence on my desk labeled "Student Supplies".
  2. Play the video "Dance Tiny Robots": http://www.ted.com/talks/bruno_maisonnier_dance_tiny_robots
  3. Play the video "These Robots Come to the Rescue After a Disaster": http://www.ted.com/talks/robin_murphy_these_robots_come_to_the_rescue_after_a_disaster
  4. On one side of the provided paper, students need to put their first and last name in the upper right hand corner.
  5. On the same side as their names, have students make a list of 10 things they think robots could be used for. (5 minutes)
  6. Have students meet in group of 2-3 to discuss their lists.  Students should look for similarities and differences among their list and classmate's. (5 minutes)
  7. On the opposite side of the paper, have students draw an image (in pencil) of what they believe robots will look like in 10 years.  (Until 5 minutes before the end of class.)
  8. Have students clean up all supplies and materials.
  9. All assignments must be turned in at the end of the hour.
  10. If a student has complete the assignment in a previous class they need to turn in a paper with their name and note that they previously completed the assignment.  They can work on the assignment they started earlier and improve the drawing.
